Local authority approvals for Floating Homes in the UK
The local authority approvals in the UK normally consist of:
1. River works license.
This license is normally obtained by the owner of the mooring site, when a floating structure or piers are located on a river. This license is normally not applicable for individual floating homes.
2. Local council approval from local planners.
This approval applies when a Floating Home is located somewhere for the very first time.
3. Approval from local landowner, marina or riverworks owner.
4. Non material amendment.
This is an approval obtained from the local council approval from local planners, when an existing houseboat or floating home is replaced by a new floating home. This approval normally cannot decide against a floating home, but can have an influence on the design of the floating home. This approval require the vessel to comply with normal British building regulations, which are also applicable for normal housing, with the necessary exemptions implied by the floating nature of the Floating Home.
5. MCA. Certificate of British Registry.
This registration require a builders certificate and a certificate of survey for tonnage and measurement, as is known from the marine world.
